Costume Design & Lighting design is a specialist subject area, which is challenging in terms of the breadth of knowledge and skills necessary for success. Three qualities are paramount; a passionate interest in costume, lighting, special affects and all related areas such as textiles, Stage & screen design. An interest in people of all ages and personalities both as material to work with in developing characters from scripts and the ability to work closely in a team. The third quality is to be able work with a broad range of visual ideas across the artistic spectrum, able to bring together the conceptual visual ideas with the practical demands of the script and the limitations of costume construction. Other abilities include good drawing skills, important in communicating your ideas to others, and the facility to work hard, whilst continuing to pay attention to details.
